Today, our school community came together to commemorate Victory in Europe (VE) Day and reflect on the enduring importance of remembrance, peace and gratitude.
As part of a special parent assembly, our Prep 7 and Prep 8 pupils shared a selection of exceptional writing inspired by I Believe in Unicorns by Michael Morpurgo. Through carefully chosen vocabulary, sophisticated writing techniques and powerful imagery, the children brought to life the emotions experienced by those living through wartime. Their work thoughtfully explored themes of fear, loss, hope and resilience, demonstrating both creativity and empathy.
The assembly provided a meaningful opportunity for pupils and families alike to reflect on the significance of VE Day, which marks the end of the Second World War in Europe on 8 May 1945. Across the school, children learnt about the events leading up to Victory in Europe Day and considered why it remains an important occasion to remember more than 80 years later.
By learning about the sacrifices made by previous generations, our pupils gained a deeper understanding of the values of kindness, unity, freedom and peace. These lessons continue to resonate today and help to inspire a sense of responsibility towards creating a better future for all.
We are incredibly proud of our Prep 7 and Prep 8 pupils for sharing their thoughtful and moving work, and for helping our school community mark this important occasion with such maturity and respect.
